Give Jairo a chance

This is Jairo. He is a 25 year old man born and raised in Dominican Republic. A couple of years back he was misdiagnosed after presenting numerous symptoms of failing health. After visiting a community clinic his mom was told he had a small insignificant cyst in his left kidney(scans showed his kidney measurements were already drastically different /attachment #1-#3-#4-#5) He was prescribed Sertal Compuesto Forte (Clonixin, Pargyline, a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used primarily for chronic Arthritis—attachment #2) and teas that were made with common herbs found in the market or even in the back yard. In fact Jairo’s left kidney was Hydro Nephrotic. He also had IBD and Testicular Microlithiasis. Jairo and I had been friends for years (we met through his cousin Birmania, my friend for over 20 years). In May 2019, we made a “Girls Trip” to Santiago,DR and an impromptu 3 hour middle of the night drive to San Pedro de Macoris where I met him for the first time in person. On February 8, 2020, (my birthday) we were married in a picturesque ranch style wedding accompanied by our closest family and friends. In September 2020, I planned a one week trip to see Jairo and he became very ill. He has been seen by a Gastroenterologist, Urologist, Nephrologist and a General Surgeon. (Attachment #6) He has had numerous blood tests m. Scans, and Contrast Mri’s. We are now on our 4th Specialist, Dr. Martha M. Bello B., Nephrologist, Dominican Institute of Renal Transplant, Fundación Dr. A. Baquero, Inc., who has run numerous tests including a renal function test where she will install a small tube directly into his kidney through the skin in his back. This way she will be able to drain the left kidney and see the individual function (the 24 hour urine collection yielded a score of 121.31 combined—attachment #7) Dr. Bello has informed us that if the individual function for the Left kidney is 25 or less it will have to be removed. If the level is higher than 25 she will install a catheter and eventually a stent. It’s needless to say that it has been a roller coaster of emotions, uncertainty and overwhelming stress. Jairo does not have health insurance and the costs for the majority of these tests are very expensive. We have applied for insurance (Senasa) and we are waiting for approval. Any contribution we can get will go towards additional testing, medications and possible Nephrectomy. We want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this, for your support, whether through a prayer or financial. Nancy & Jairo
