Help Susan rebuild her home

I am devastated to share that my mom lost her home very suddenly in the Caldor fire this morning (August 17, 2021). We are struggling to help her find a new place to live and all the while she has to continue paying her mortgage. this is a terrible burden on her limited disabled Navy income.

This home has a unique history. See, we grew up two doors down from this home. This home was always the nicest house on the street and we dreamed of living in it one day. My mom moved out of state for many years and decided to move back to California to be with her family. Her dream home, that home two doors down, was for sale. She bought it. It was an opportunity to reconnect with my childhood and share a piece of the simple life with my son. She spent the last year working full days on the property to clear it from overgrown vegetation. Hard labor to make it into something beautiful. She stretched herself financially to have something she always dreamed of.

Now, Grizzly Flat is decimated. The entire community is gone. Rebuilding will take years. Insurance won't cover all of her expenses during this time. We don't know exactly what to expect but we do know she has to continue to pay for a mortgage on a home she no longer has while paying for a place to live and replace all of her essentials. As a Navy veteran, she lives on a limited income and this will become very difficult for her.

I can't imagine starting over. I can't imagine losing everything.

I know there are many families impacted by this fire so I appreciate your generosity and will continue to pray for all of the families and firefighters.
