Helping a Zimbabwean Widow

URGENT NEED - by 23rd September

My name is Nikki Seiler. I live with my husband, Brian and our 5 children in Florida, USA. We have been here for 10 years moving from Zimbabwe in 2005 when we had to leave due to the economic and political situation. It is extremely difficult to try and put all these swirling emotions into legible print. Somehow I was not prepared for this moment at all.

In June 2013 my Dad, at 66 years old, woke up my Mom and said he was strugglling to breathe. They lived in their home in Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe - a home they had lived in since the early 80's, and Africa - home for their entire lives. Because there are no functioning emergency services, my Mom called different people until someone answered the phone to come and help. She ran through the their dark long driveway to open the gate to let the friend in to help. They wrapped my Dad in a blanket which they used as a stretcher to carry him to the car. My Dad had suffered a heart attack and had already passed away. Mom Mom was left alone. I cannot express the devasting effects of this life-altering event.

Since the year 2000, Zimbabwe has been in a chronic economical state, with the "land invasions" causing devastating effects Country wide, but especially in the small farming towns, like Chinhoyi. In June 2003 my parents were almost beaten to death inside their own home, but still they insisted on remaining in Zimbabwe because they felt that the suffering of the people was immense, and their heart for orphans over-rode any thought of leaving Zimbabwe. Life Insurance Companies fell apart, their retirement plans fell apart - everything fell apart.

As we prepared to bury my Dad we packed boxes in the home that I grew up in because a friend of theirs (who they had gone into Business with) took every cent they owned. My Mom was left with nothing but a mortgage on a home in Cape Town and all the costs of burying her husband.

For the last 3 years we have watched my Mom try and fight for justice and get the money owed her whilst grieving the tremendous loss of not just her husband but her very best friend and her life in Africa. Their are no words to adequately describe the pain.

Part of my Parents retirmement plan was a small house they purchased in Cape Town South Africa. The problem is that my Mom is now at risk of losing the house because the bank is needing a new mortgage (the initial mortgage was in my Dad's name) or else my Mom will lose the house. The bank says my Mom is too old to receive a new mortgage. In order to save the house we have to secure funds to pay off the debt by 23rd September or else they will auction the home.

We desperately need to help raise $20,000 - an amount that seems so overwhelming - to save the only asset my Mom has, and a roof over her head. I had a thought that if enough people got together we could help to raise the funds she needs. If 1,000 people gave $20 we would have the amount she needs. Oh my word, just the thought of it makes me so happy!!!

I am asking if you would please consider helping my Mom. Every cent of money donated will go towards paying off her home. If you are not in a position to help financially I would ask that you would please share this with as many friends and family as possible.

If you have any questions I would be so happy to answer them and am hoping, having never done this before, that I can update this page with the progress.

As I swallow my pride and ask for help I want to let you know how very grateful I am (I don't think there are words that describe the depth of emotion) for considering helping my Mom. If all you can do is read this and pray for her situation - yay. I would ask that each person reading this would consider the widows in your own community. Their plight is so trautmatic and so very often they are too embarrassed or broken to ask for the help they so desperately need.

Thank you, with everything I have to say "thank you" for considering supporting My Mom.

Best regards
