Introduction
My friend, Vincent Mkochi, is a Spine surgeon working at the Lilongwe Institute of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery (LION). Every day, he treats patients suffering from life-changing spine injuries—many of whom face overwhelming challenges not just physically, but financially.

To raise funds and awareness, Vincent is undertaking an extraordinary journey across Malawi—from its lowest point in Nsanje (approximately 37 meters above sea level) to its highest peak, Sapitwa on Mount Mulanje (over 3,000 meters).
This is more than a physical challenge. It is a powerful symbol of the journey his patients face: from their lowest point of injury and despair, toward recovery, dignity, and independence.

Why This Matters
Spine trauma can be devastating. Many patients lose mobility, independence, and the ability to work or support their families. While treatment is possible, access is often limited by the high cost of surgery, implants, and rehabilitation.
At LION, Vincent and his team are committed to helping these patients rebuild their lives—but they cannot do it alone.

How Funds Will Be Used
Funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward supporting spine trauma patients under LION’s care, including:
- Rehabilitation equipment (wheelchairs, mattresses, braces, essential supplies)
- Surgical implants (plates, screws, cages, and other critical materials)
- Patient care support during recovery and rehabilitation
In addition, a portion of the funds will support the logistics of the expedition, ensuring Vincent can safely complete the journey and bring visibility to this important cause.

I am based in the UK and have set up this fundraiser to enable international donations. All funds will be received into my account and then transferred directly to Vincent and the Lilongwe Institute of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery (LION) in Malawi.
