*My name is Donald Edward Davis. I was born in Alabama, in 1969. I moved to California in 1974, and graduated from Jordan High School,in Long Beach California in 1998. After graduating from high school, I decided to join the California National Guard, to serve my country. My first deployment was to Korea for training. After completing my training in Korea, I was next deployed to LosAngeles, to help guard the city of Los Angeles during the LosAngeles riots. My guard time in California during the riots was a very shocking experience....Then 911 happened.

That unbelievable and horrifying experience changed my life forever. After 911, I was deployed to Tooele, Utah, To guard the Tooele ArmyDepot at Dugway, and the CDC Chemical Depot. After that deployment was completed, I moved to Utah, and joined the Utah National Guard. My next deployment was to Kuwait, and then to Iraq during Enduring Freedom...in the fight for our country against terrorism. Fighting in a war was very difficult, and experienced many horrific moments, and lost close friends, and saw many things that effect me to this day. But I was lucky, and made it home, when so many others didn't, I am so grateful for being strong enough to make it through those years...even though I have many lasting emotional and physical effects, but thankfully was not physically injured..

When I came home from Iraq, I was then deployed to Nicaragua, to help in the building of schools for the Nicaraguan children. After that deployment, I returned to Utah, and continued to guard the Tooele ArmyDepot, until 2000. At which time I retired from the Utah National Guard. I continued to work as a civilian guard at the Tooele Army Depot , and the chemical Depot facility.

After some time,I decided it was time to settle down, start a family, raise a son, get married and live my life as a civilian in Utah. My son, Desdon, was born with Autism, so that has certainly been a challenge, but he's a great kid, very high functioning, and a lot of fun to be with. He 's very smart, has a very kind heartand a good learner....he even taught himself to read by watching television.! My wife, Dana, has always been there for both of us, and somehow, is always there for the rest of her family as well. I don't know how she does it, but she does! She is our rock!, and we have had our ups and downs, but truly have a happy life. ...that is, until this year... I went from feeling like I had a cold or the flu for a few days, to being taken to LDS Hospital in an ambulance...and after a few days, discovered I had leukemia....

Now the battle has really begun. Ive gone through a couple of rounds of chemo. and my bone marrow started making it's own platelates, so I was doing better. But the Doctors have decided that I will have a much better chance if I get a bone marrow transplant. My brother, Derwin, flew out from North Carolina to be tested, and it turns out he's a 50% match, which the doctors say is a very good percentage. It looks like I will be having the transplant soon, if all goes well..and so far, so good!Somehow, we are getting through this, day by day... some pretty devestating treatments, and things that are very difficult to go through, But Im still fighting!, and I wont give up! Somehow i know I will get through this, and 'll be able to carry on my life as before, and be a whole family again. WE are so lucky to have a very supportive extended family, that is here for us whenever we need them...Love to you all, and keep those positive thoughts coming my way..It really helps to know you're all out there sending love and prayers for my recovery. I sincerely thank you with all my heart!! Donald Davis
