Dominic's Insulin Pump

As many of our family and friends know my eldest son Dominic was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in June 2014. The past two years have definitely been a challenge, but  the diagnosis has not slowed Dominic down one step. Dominic is very active in sports through the City of Raleigh, and as of this week as a starting QB for his middle school football team and is doing a great job managing his blood sugars. He currently administers insulin by giving himself shots in the stomach, which is a great option but it is hard to ensure his body is uptaking the correct amount each day. We have the opportunity to alleviate some of the discomfort and inconsistency that comes with taking shots in his stomach by using an insulin pump. Although we have private insurance our out of pocket expense will be close to $2,000 to get the process started. The insulin pump will provide consistent record of his blood sugars and will maintain a reasonable blood sugar within normal range. If not controlled properly diabetes can reak havoc on a person's body and the insulin pump will provide the consistent control required for Dominic to lead a LONG, healthy life.
