I'm Brigitte, and I'm running the TCS NYC marathon this year to raise money for an amazing school - PS166 in Queens! We have over 1000 students in pre-K through 5th grade, but the school is a tight-knit community where teachers and administrators know all the kids by name. As well as having a great environment, our school is high achieving - it's a showcase school for the English-Spanish dual language program again this year.
A great part of going to this school is that the students all get booster programs in addition to their normal curriculum. These are organized by the PTA, and depending on grade, kids may be studying architecture, doing yoga, hip hop, learning chess, ballroom dancing, percussion, theater and more! These programs are 100% supported by fundraising and grants and my goal is to raise $100 for every mile I run to donate to the PTA to go towards funding these programs.
Finally, another new thing in our school is that kids now get outdoor recess on a playstreet! There's so much more room for kids to run around now, and if I raise over my goal, I intend to donate the extra to the school administration to purchase supplies that are used a lot in recess - chalk, hula hoops, jump ropes - all that good stuff that wears out and needs to be replaced periodically. What better thing to use a marathon to raise money for than kids getting outside and getting healthy?!
So, I'd love your donation! If you donate by October 29th, I'll run with your name on a bib during the marathon :) Thanks so much for your generosity. Brigitte.
