26.2 For Humanity

Donation protected
On March 18th I, Shawn Trimble, will be participating in the Los Angeles Marathon. I will be running and representing a cause that has had a great impact on my life and continues to do so. I will be running for the Kino Border Intiative, a program that works to provide humane treatment, legal assistance, and advocacy to a broken immigration system.

Mission Statement:
The Kino Border Initiative (KBI)  is a binational organization that works in the area of migration and is located in Nogales, Arizona and Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. The KBI was inaugurated in January of 2009 by six organizations from the United States and Mexico: The California Province of the Society of Jesus, Jesuit Refugee Service/USA, the Missionary Sisters of the Eucharist, the Mexican Province of the Society of Jesus, the Diocese of Tucson and the Archdiocese of Hermosillo. The KBI’s vision is to help make humane, just, workable migration between the U.S. and Mexico a reality. Its mission is to promote US/Mexico border and immigration policies that affirm the dignity of the human person and a spirit of bi-national solidarity.

The donations would help provide financial support to the many projects that the KBI fronts. Such programs are seperated into three different sects. They consist of: Education, Humanitarian Assistance and Research and Advocacy.

Education:
The KBI provides presentations and workshops on the reality along the US-Mexico border and how the KBI and human rights groups are responding to the humanitarian crisis along with in-depth analysis of undocumented immigration. Education oppurtunites are not limited to only presentations but offer immersion experiene trips and youth outreach programs as well.

Humanitarian Assistance:
The KBI focuses on humanitarian assistance in three direct ways; The Aid Center for Deported Migrants, The Nazareth House, and first aid centers. These three programs focus on providing safe living conditions for asylum seekers, migrants and refugees from the unhospitable conditions of the desert and detention centers along the U.S.-Mexico Border.

Research and Advocacy:
Immigration is a complex and divisive topic in the United States and much of the world. For this reason, the KBI recognizes the importance of providing a space in which scholars and students can do research on migration and help find solutions to pressing policy issues.
