When I was in middle school my brother, Teng Xiong, would drop me off in the morning before he went to work. When he gets paid, he would always give me a twenty dollar bill as I got out of the car. He told me he would buy me new shoes when I got older. My family struggled a lot growing up so you can imagine what this must have been like to a 13 year old. My brother loved me, this I know. My brother was a good person, this I know.
As we got older, my brother's life began to change. My brother started turning to drugs. He used the drugs to numb his pain and sadness. As time went by, my brother's pain grew deeper and his addiction grew stronger. We reached out to him during his struggles. Perhaps we didn't do all that we could to help him or perhaps we did.
If you're reading this and you have someone you care about that is struggling with addiction or depression, I urge you to do everything in your power to let that person know you love them. In the end, if we can't help someone with their pain, all we can do is be there and let them know how deeply we care for and love them. Please do not waste another minute.
On Friday May 20, 2016, my brother took his own life. We got him to CRMC where he stayed on life support. On Tuesday May 24, 2016, the doctors broke news to us that my brother suffered too much trauma to the brain resulting in brain death. Our family and relatives came together to let my brother find peace that day. I know that brother is with the Lord now; free from his pain and suffering.
My brother has a good heart. Even after all his trails and tribulations, I know he would never do anything to hurt or harm anyone. He truly loved us all as we did him. If you know him personally, I know you will agree with me.
My family and I asked for your prayers and support during this dark time. If you can help with funeral expenses, it would be a tremendous help to put my brother in his final resting place. My brother's funeral is set for the weekend of June 11- 13. My deepest thanks goes out to those who have and continue to keep my brother and my family in your prayers.
10% of the proceeds will go to the Fresno Rescue Mission to help those who struggle with addiction in honor of my brother Teng Xiong. Please visit the organization's website to learn more. http://fresnorm.org/
