Stacey was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in July. At first, it looked like she would be one of the lucky ones and not have to have chemo or anything crazy. Then, after her genetic testing, everything changed for her. She was a carrier for the BRCA 2 Gene, and that meant that she would have to have many chemotherapy sessions, along with a Double Mastectomy and then reconstructive surgery as well. The day that Stacey found out that she had cancer, her daughter was in labor, and she chose to hide it to not take away from her daughter's day or to stress her out during labor.
Stacey received 4 sessions of the "Red Devil" Chemotherapy, which caused her a lot of weakness and exhaustion to the point that she has been unable to work. Stacey prepared as much as possible as soon as she found out about her treatment plan. She signed up for help from any agency or program that would allow it. This helped cover her bills and provided food support up through January, but in February, that support will no longer be in place. Stacey is a single mother and has not been able to work regularly because of her illness and treatments. She is worried about her bills, which will be due in February. If you are able to help with anything at all, please don't hesitate to do so.
Update from Stacey in December.
Here’s an update guys, it’s been a while.
So I’m halfway done with Taxol, officially! 6 more weekly treatments and here’s to hoping side effects stay minimal. I met with my surgeon today. As of right now it’s looking like double mastectomy, reconstruction , potentially a hysterectomy (all at the same time) since I am at higher risk for other types of cancer with the BRCA 2. I have lots of appointments, consults and such between January and February. I will also have an outpatient procedure in February where they will remove a lymph node to test it, I’m assuming for cancer cells? I honestly took in a lot of information today. Weather pending my last chemo treatment is 1/28 and my major surgery should be mid March. Lots of good vibes, prayers, whatever it is you believe, please!
Also, we will probably set up a Gofundme or something after the first of the year. Thank God for the pink fund for paying my rent Nov, Dec and Jan. I’ve had lots of help from loved ones but it’s looking like this road is longer than I anticipated, probably into May, and I just can’t make it. I work when I can, but those days aren’t as often as I’d like.
Actual goal is $5,000
Update: I feel like anytime I have an appt about my treatment plan it gets switched up. I will have a mastectomy on my left breast April 17th as well as a hysterectomy. The hysterectomy will be because my cancer is hormone positive and also decreases my chances of ovarian cancer, considering I have the BRCA 2 mutation. I will go back in 6 months, I think he said, for the mastectomy on my right side and the start of reconstruction. The thought of losing one breast instead of both at the same time is worse to me, talk about a hit to my confidence. So thankful for my therapist and the massive amounts of support I’m blessed with, otherwise I don’t know how I’d make it through this!
To say I’m nervous is an understatement but it’s just one more phase of putting this all behind me. All the prayers, good vibes, thoughts etc are welcome!
