ASSISTANCE FOR MIKE LALLi FAMILY
Donation protected
I have started this Go Fund Me page on behalf of my childhood friend Mike Lalli, who is fighting a variety of illnesses. Please consider any possible financial assistance and pray for Mike, his wife Stephanie and their family at this difficult time.
Mike’s Story
A few years ago, Mike was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer formed by malignant plasma cells. Normal plasma cells are found in the bone marrow and are an important part of the immune system. When plasma cells become cancerous and grow out of control, they can produce tumors or lesions in bones throughout the body that makes the bones weak and break easily.
The overgrowth of plasma cells in the bone marrow can crowd out normal blood-forming cells, leading to low blood counts, which can cause anemia, weakness and fatigue. The antibody made by the myeloma cells also do not help fight infections and may also lead to kidney problems.
Multiple myeloma is considered to be incurable but treatable. However, typical treatments such as steroids, chemotherapy or radiation is difficult in Mike’s case because he has had two strokes and is required to take a regimen of blood thinners.
The lesions on his bones has led to significant pain in his legs, as well as his neck and back and a recent visit to a neurologist has indicated that Mike also suffers from neuropathy, a painful condition that is attacking the nerves around his spine. He is unable to receive pain injections for this condition, also due to the complications of being a stroke risk. His body being not strong enough for surgery, Mike is heavily medicated, walks with a cane and is not able to drive. All the medical issues surrounding Mike at this time are making it difficult to get treatments and will likely lead to some care that will not be covered by health insurance.
Mike worked full-time up until June 5 at the Ritz Carlton in Jacksonville, FL. He will run out of short term disability in September and is applying for SSI disability benefits, as it is unlikely he will ever return to work. Stephanie just recently became employed at CVS Pharmacy and like most of us, they have a home and other bills on top of mounting medical bills.
How you can help
The Lalli family is hoping to get assistance from friends and family to help them with living expenses and increasing medical bills over the next few months as they work through the long-term disability requirements. I know Mike is a very proud man and is not really one to ask for help, but I know he and his family will be eternally grateful for any assistance you would be willing to give. We are all asked to consider multiple ways to donate our time and money to various causes and I appreciate any consideration you would have to help Mike and Stephanie at this difficult time. Thank you for your time and thoughtfulness.
