As you know, our dear friend, community activist, Food Roots founder and all around North Coast treasure Shelly (Jeanne Michele) Bowe was diagnosed with ALS last year. As this relentless disease continues to take its toll, her Care Team is reaching out to the public to help her and Richard with rising expenses.
We are fundraising with three specific goals in mind.
1. Shelly (Jeanne Michele) Bowe and Richard need a customized wheelchair lift installed in their van so she is able to travel. As her lung capacity becomes depleted, she is considering a tracheostomy, and a wheelchair lift is essential so she can continue to travel to medical appointments and enjoy and take part in life. A wheelchair lift conversion costs around $5000.
2. Shelly and Richard would like to pour a concrete pathway outside and around their house. As you know, Shelly loves the outdoors and her beautiful garden. Wheelchairs do not roll on gravel, and Shelly would like to be able to be outside and enjoy the great weather we're having. Cost of this concrete path (installed by volunteers) is around $500.
3. Shelly takes a daily probiotic superfood known as Lunasin. Lunasin slows the effects of ALS. Cost of Lunasin per month is $400. We'd like to make sure she has a year's supply. ($4800)
Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
With love and good wishes,
Shelly's Care Team
