There is never a good time to hear the dreaded 'c' word but hearing it when you have just given birth to your first child, has to be the worst time ever.
Michelle was diagnosed with bowel and liver cancer. She's had her first major operation a couple of weeks ago to remove both her bowel and colon.
They have a long road ahead with further operations and chemotherapy and of course the road to rehab.
The Last few weeks have been incredibly difficult, not just for michelle, but for her husband who has not only had the worry for his wife but has had the fastest learning curve of his life looking after their (now) 16 week old son!
They are dealing with it all so well, but there are some inevitable practicalities that need to be met.
Money being one of them.
Phil has so far been off work but will have to return soon so childcare will need to be considered. Michelle is self employed so isn't earning (other than basic maternity pay) and has a physical job as a massage therapist. With the loss of core control, the physical effects of chemo, and living with q stoma she is looking at well over a year before she'll be able to return to work. There are also are added financial implications of petrol/parking with the regular trips to various hospitals for treatments.
Michelle would NEVER ask for money, but she has given me permission to set up this page so that myself and others that have expressed a wish to help, have a safe place to donate.
In times like these everyone steps up in their own way. Be that in a practical way, offering domestic help (food prep, babysitting etc) emotional support, financial or whatever else we can think of to get them through this time.
