Mike and Barb Fisher were following a dream. A dream to settle down and prepare for a life together in a state full of sunshine, happiness and new beginnings. Virginia was calling their name, and everything fell into place for them all too easily… Barb immediately got a job offer (a handful actually), and Mike found his neighbors at his doorstep begging to buy their house before it officially hit the market. It seemed that things were really blossoming for Mike and Barb. And who could deserve it more? If you are reading this page- a page nobody ever wants to set up for dear friends- it is likely that you know what amazing and very special people these two are. Mike and Barb will be there in a pinch for you. And it’s likely they have been. And now it’s time for us to be there for them.
Because after one night in their new Virginia home, as Barb prepared to take on her new position as a 4th grade teacher in Falmouth, something wasn’t right. Mike had a hard time putting his words together. After extensive testing, it was clear what was going on. Mike had a massively aggressive brain tumor. After surgery to biopsy the tumor, Mike began the recuperation process and the family began a new journey. Abi was there in a heartbeat, as well as much of their family. Weeks later, the Fishers met with numerous doctors to discuss the future. Because of the aggressiveness of the tumor, and because treatment would compromise quality of life, the difficult decision was made that Mike would enjoy his life without pursuing further treatment.
This is clearly an emotional and devastating blow to all of us. Abi is working to be with her dad in Virginia as much as possible. Because Barb is without many sick days and job longevity, it is a financial blow. The family is planning a trip to Mexico, one of Mike’s favorite places. There will be many unexpected costs for the family in the months to come. This fund is being set up to go directly to Mike, Barb and Abi in order to support them financially, and to take the edge off an already unfathomable turn of events. Any donation is very much appreciated.
