TEAM DEBBIE!

As many of you may know back in May 2016 our mom, Debbie, was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung with a mass on her adrenal gland and brain cancer. Since then she has been through gamma knife radiation and chemo therapy. After learning that chemo wasn't working as well as we would have all liked she tried a new infusion trail.

Since then life was becoming pretty normal. She was gaining her strength back up and becoming more energized until the scariest day of our lives happened. On Tuesday, December 27th our mom suffered a seizure that left her in the hospital for 45 days. She continued having seizures for about a week.

Doctors insisted on her going to a sub-acute rehab to continue her physical therapy after her stay at the hospital was up before coming home. Unfortunately, insurance did not approve her because they thought she was "fine to come home".  The problem with coming home would mean that our dad and all of us will have to make major adjustments to our work schedules. We want her to keep doing her physical therapy and walking around as much as possible. She is in great spirits and just wants to come home and get ready for those twins! She knows what she needs to do and cannot wait to start at home.

We have not gotten the prognosis we would like for her health but we are going to try to make her as happy and comfortable as possible. We and the doctors are going to do everything possible to continue fighting this battle. The last few weeks have been the most difficult of all our lives. Deb has made major improvements cognitively and physically, though she still needs  24 hour care. She needs a walker to get around and needs to be monitored doing simple daily tasks.

So now we are adjusting to this new norm of giving her all the care and assistance she needs. This will not be easy. But we are asking on our closest friends and family for anything you can spare. You have all been amazingly supportive the last few weeks and we wouldn’t ask for help unless we truly needed it.

Our goal of $10,000.00 is a long shot but we might as well try. We are looking to hire a nurse for a few hours a day, which would help TREMENDOUSLY while we worked. Typically, at home nurses cost anywhere between $28-30 an hour and insurance wont cover a full day. In addition to the home nurse we will be putting funds toward medical bills and a physical therapist.

Through all of this she has kept her strength to keep fighting which means we need to all keep fighting for her.

Our family appreciates all the love and support and it doesn’t go unnoticed. We thank and love you all.
