Stolen Livelihood
Replace stolen work trailer and tools.
This fund is to help my daughter and her husband replace their stolen work trailer and a lifetime of tools. My daughter Katie and her husband James have four kids. Katie became a stay at home mother after having their last child so she could raise him through his formative years. Their sole income comes from James’s self employment from his contracting company.
In the early morning hours on 10/4/2020, a thief made their way into a gated community in Redding, Ca, looking for something to steal. Just shy of an hour later had managed to get the toughest lock made off of James’s work trailer and drove away with their entire livelihood in tow. James’s trailer not only had tools for James personally but he has a crew of 4 men who work for him so he had multiples of most tools.
A rough estimate of his loss was around $35,000. A breakdown of some costs include $7,999 for a new trailer, $2,000 for a generator that can keep up with 5 men using power tools, $1,300 for a gas air compressor, $600 for ladders, $600 for a roto hammer drill, cordless tools $3000, levels $800-$1000, air hoses, extension cords, ram set stud gun $250, nail guns $300 each, then there’s cordless power tools, skill saws, battery packs, Nail guns and the list just keeps going. A lot of hardware was also taken from the job.
They‘ve had to deplete the savings they were putting away to build onto their two bedroom house. Homeowner’s insurance won’t cover any of the loss as it was business related and not personal. Automobile insurance won’t cover any of the loss because the trailer was not connected to his truck when it was stolen.
