New Zealand Study Abroad
My name is Alexa Licata and I am a student at Northfield Mount Hermon. In the spring term of my senior year, I am looking forward to traveling to New Zealand with my class for a study abroad program for five weeks. During this trip, we will be touring sites, hiking, meeting local people, and learning more about the culture and Maori langauge. We will be traveling over both north and south islands of New Zealand. Before we leave, will be taking a senior english course, a history course, and a geology class to prepare for the trip, and will contiune these teachings while traveling in New Zealand. On days when we are not studying we will be going on various outdoor adventures such as a hiking through the volcanoes of Tongariro National Park, swimming with dolphins, and whitewater rafting. While traveling, students are expected to help with shopping, cooking, and cleaning up after meals, and with packing the vans and a trailer. Also I will be taking along a sketch pad and journal to document my entire trip and will be taking these home, along with many pictures, to share my experience with as many people as possible. So overall, it is an extreme learning experience.
The money that I will raise will cover the travels throughout the north and south islands of New Zealand, accomidations, youth hostles, maraes, home stays, and airfare.I would like to reach my goal by the beginning of July. This trips means a lot to me because I have never been this far from home. Being able to learn about the culture while physically experiencing it will be absolutley amazing. While learning about another culture, I will be able to learn more about myself and create life long memories.
If I am able to reach this goal, I will be extremely thankful. With this money, I will be able to grow more as a person and a student. I am working all summer to raise money, but can't do it all on my own. Every little bit counts and will be greatly appreciated.
