Matty’s Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On Friday July 1st Matty was struck by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle home. He was ejected off of his bike and suffered serious injuries. At the scene it was determined that he had a compound fracture of his left leg and his right ankle was broken. He was immediately med flighted to Tufts where we were told that he was bleeding internally due to a ruptured spleen, fractured his pelvic bone in two places, and has two separate spinal injuries. He underwent imaging and they immediately operated to stop the internal bleeding.

Once they stopped his internal bleeding they went on to operate on his leg and pelvis. He now has two rods in his pelvis and they were able to repair his compound fracture on his left leg. We were told there is still an extremely high risk with his left leg.
He is currently in a medically induced coma and intubated. He will undergo many more complicated and risky surgeries.
This will undoubtably be a lengthy painful process, in hopes for a full recovery. As you can imagine, his hospital bills and after care is going to be extremely expensive and he will be out of work for the foreseeable future.

If you know Matty, you know he is such a selfless, loving person and will do anything for anyone at the drop of a dime, his sense of humor is almost as loud as his voice, and can make anyone laugh. Above all he is a caring and genuine guy that loves his family and friends more than anything. Matty is a fighter and will continue to work through this with all of the love and support surrounding him. If you can find it within your heart to send a donation anything helps.❤️

***Update***
Matty is still at Tufts Medical Center but has been taken out of the medically induced coma. His body has endured an enormous amount of trauma from these surgeries so far. His red blood cell count has dropped drastically due to the extensive orthopedic surgeries. The doctors performed surgery on his right ankle to see if his body could handle a smaller surgery before moving to his spine and lumbar. He was held in recovery for 5+ hours because his oxygen levels had dropped and he was diagnosed with pneumonia. They sent him for an emergency CT scan where they found a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lungs). They immediately started the process to dissolve the blood clot as it can be deadly. Thankfully they were successful and started him on blood thinners to prevent any more clots. Matty is still in severe pain even with the heavy medications. Because of his current condition, the spine and back surgery is not safe to perform. He is now fitted for a neck and back brace to keep him completely immobile to avoid any further damage to his spine and lumbar. The Orthopedic doctor has confirmed there is still a 50/50 chance he could lose his left leg.
On a more positive note when Matty is not heavily medicated, he is joking with staff and making everyone laugh regardless of the amount of pain he is in. He truly has proved to the medical staff and to us that he is a fighter and he will not let this stop him. There is no determination on what is going to happen next and we are just taking it one day at a time. We will keep everyone informed when he is able to have visitors. We are beyond grateful and blessed for the amount of support and love everyone has shown for Matty. Keep the love and prayers coming❤️
