James Magee Memorial Fund

James Magee was a 23 year old young father of two who had an infectious smile that would light up the room. The only thing brighter than James’ smile was his personality through laughter and jokes. James brought joy and positivity into the lives of everyone he touched. James was a selfless person who was passionate about two things: giving back to the community and providing for his family. Through working for non-profit organizations James was able to do both. He began his career at Conservation Corps of Long Beach where he performed many city beautification projects, such as tree planting and cleaning the streets of Long Beach. Through his hard work ethic and passion for serving his community, it became apparent James was a leader. Through his leadership on forestry projects in the Los Angeles National Forest, James vastly improved his hands-on skills and sharpened his natural leadership qualities. In late 2018 James transitioned into a career as a solar-installer for Grid Alternatives Greater Los Angeles. James spent his days working at Grid Alternatives installing solar for low-income families in Long Beach, Compton, and Los Angeles. In addition to installing solar, James was a leader and teacher to at-risk youth, teaching them solar installation skills and being a role-model for other minority youth looking to enter the solar industry and better their lives. Unfortunately, James Magee fell victim to gun violence in Long Beach on October 1st, 2020. The same community he loved to give back to, just a few minutes from his home. James is survived by his mother, his two small children and the mother of his children. In this difficult time we ask if the community can give back to James’ Family the same way James gave back to the community. Anything you can give will help and we thank you in advance for your support. Through this campaign, it is the goal to raise funds for funeral costs and supplemental income to stabilize his family through this emotionally and financially difficult time.
