Dena has always been the first to step up when a friend is in need.  She doesn’t wait to be asked, she just jumps in and gives.  Whether it’s organizing a fundraiser, researching options, sharing advise, or just making sure you know that there’s someone ready to listen, she is always ready to help.  Dena’s friends have all been blessed by her big heart, bright smile, straightforward attitude, and that beautiful laugh.  Some of you may have even been lucky enough to be on the receiving end of one of her baking sprees or maybe even a full spread put out by her and Hans.  With those two, you know that you’ll always have a good time and be well fed and entertained.

She champions causes that she feels deeply about and has been a vocal advocate for her community.  One of the first things she did after her diagnosis was to educate any woman who would listen about the need for self-exams and mammograms.  She always wants to help.

Well now it’s time to show our girl some love.

Work hard, play hard has always been her motto and she is very good at both.  If you’ve been following Dena’s story you know that she has attacked her cancer journey with the same fire that she puts into everything.  She studied and researched all that she could to so that she would be able to make educated decisions about every step of treatment, and when unexpected twists got thrown at her, she was able to adjust and come up with a new plan that she and her doctors felt good about.  And of course, she did it all with her positive attitude and fighting spirit, all while continuing to work as much as possible and raise her two awesome boys.

She knew it was going to be a hard journey, and she’s ready for it to get rough.  She’s a fighter.  Dena would never ask for help but we all know she would be there for us if the tables were turned.  The latest set-back is going to keep her in the hospital for a week, with home health care coming when she finally gets out.  Then comes chemo.  And who knows what else will get thrown at her.  She’ll face it head on, and probably keep consoling all of us with jokes and smiles but let’s see what we can do to take a little bit of the burden off of her and Hans.  She won’t be working (you know she’ll want to keep going, even when she shouldn't but it just won’t be possible for quite a while), and Hans is taking time off to be with her as much as he can.

Please donate whatever you can.  No amount is too small, but every little bit will help.  There are a lot of people who love Dena and if each of us gives a little, it will add up.  She has to handle the physical and emotional, but we can help with the financial.  She would never ask, no matter how big the need, but the time has come for all of us to step in and help a great woman.

Once this is released I'll give her access so that she can update when she feels up to it, but please don't expect her to respond to every note.  This is a chance for us to send her well wishes and to relieve some of the stress from dealing with financial devastation while trying to save her life.

Please share share share so that everyone who might give will know about this effort.  And thank you all!
