My mass of hair has awarded me many great memories, from compliments to having change thrown at me anytime I dawdle too long on a footpath, but a change has taken place. The last few months upkeep of my dreads have changed from a labour of love to an irritating chore, it is just about time to bid them farewell.
I know some people will lament the loss and some others may cheer with anticipation, but whatever your emotional attachment (or detachment) I’d like everyone to commemorate this moment with me, let’s have a fundraiser.
I’ve set up this fundraiser page so I can easily keep everyone updated on my progress towards a self-imposed goal of $3000, whether you donate through the site directly or flick me your change after the pub (maybe I’ll have to spend one last day loitering on a sidewalk with a hat out too).
The charities I’ve chosen to give to equally at the culmination are:
The Fred Hollows Foundation – who do some excellent work restoring sight and improving the life expectancy of indigenous peoples across many countries. In some places you can change a person’s life by restoring their sight for just $25!
Amnesty International – who perform work in Australia and overseas in relation to Human Rights, including protection of women in 3rd word countries and in Australia, refugees rights, domestic violence and war crimes.
I’m planning on cutting my hair toward the end of June and I’d love to see everyone give what they can, so I’ll start with a $200 donation from myself.
I will post a tally of donations at the end June so if you would like to stay anonymous or would prefer I don’t disclose how much you donated please let me know!
Go on, hit that donate button.
Thankyou,
Drew Holland
