Hi everyone, I am reaching out to the Facebook community to help our dear friend Darla Atkins and her husband Doug in their time of need. Please read to the end. Earlier this year in April, Darla was hospitalized and diagnosed with sudden onset of liver and kidney failure. She had internal bleeding and lost a ton of blood. The early reports were bad and we thought she was going to need an emergency transplant of both her kidneys and liver. To our relief, her kidneys started to recover so she was placed on a waiting list for a new liver. Since then, she has been gutting it out, rarely missing a shift at work, despite being sick as a dog most days. She all but lost her voice and has been going weekly to get pints of fluid drained from her. This whole time she has kept a great attitude and always worried about everyone but herself. A true trooper. This past weekend Darla was getting extremely weak. She was admitted to Banner Payson on Monday 9/28 and released yesterday. We were hoping for good news. Unfortunately that is not the case. Darla was told she is terminal. Her body is not healthy enough to receive her transplant. We are all devastated. She is devastated. Darla would be working from home today if I let her. She will never ask for help, but we will for her. She has been a loyal friend, employee, and de facto family member to many of us.
