Furnari's fight to beat cancer

The Furnari family was a part of the Wake Forest Community for almost 15 years. Chris and Michelle were active in their church, St Catherines of Siena. They had an active role as coach and parents in the town of Wake Forest athletics. Parents to Stephanie and Matt they have been a loving family to many of their children's friends. Michelle Furnari is a teacher mother and friend to many! She taught at Wake Forest Presbyterian Preschool for many years. She left there to go back as an elementary school teacher at Forest Pines and then North Forest Pines. The family has moved back to NJ to be near their extended families. Last summer, Michelle was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and has seemed to receive one blow after another since then. Her thyroid was removed and the treatments that are standard for this type of cancer followed. It was not successful. The cancer has spread and her battle has begun to take its financial toll. The treatment she will receive next is out of network so the insurance will not cover most of it, if it covers any at all. It is a proton radiation treatment that is available in very few places in the world and she will be getting it 15 minutes from her house. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Michelle has given so freely of herself and this community for many years. Countless students and parents have been blessed to have had her in their life. Her heart for learning and children has brought much peace to parents as they sent their babies to pre school or off to elementary school or even the stresses of the 4th grade writing test.
