Mike Fiermonti Spinal Cord Expenses

Those of you who know Mike personally, know what I went through with him before getting him to allow me to create this page. I finally got the O.K. when he realised he didn't want his PRIDE to be what got in the way of him ever being able to walk again, or let his PRIDE get in the way of continuing his regular medical treatments that are used to continue strengthening his heart and lungs that sustained substantial damage due to lack of oxygen and being so overused just prior to both going into Complete FAILURE!!!!, last November, when I ,thanks be to GOD, found him on the floor before it was PAST too late.( was pretty much technically too late as is, thank god for modern medicine and power of prayer)
Due to Mikes disability, (broke his neck in 2007, (with mobility)), he is currently on MEDICARE and has been since 2009. We also purchased SUPPLEMENTAL/GAP as recommended by Social Security, however, because Mike is on MEDICARE but UNDER THE AGE OF 65, he was only given THREE OPTIONS to choose from, as per AZ law and all are local. Because he is on Medicare while under 65 , companies can REFUSE him the right to purchasee additional coverage, this is in accordance with AZ and they all did( min. age we found for acceptance was 50 yoa)
We picked the best plan they offered, he was only 32, how much medicine or Durable Medical equipment was he gonna need anyway, Right? ( I should have known better, I watched my Dad slowly disappear and die from A.L.S. at only 27 - 31 years old)
Anything can happen right?
Well guess what?
You know the rest,
Most of you anyway , BUT, Here is where our recent plea for help comes in.
We have met the level of cash payout from all sources with our insurance, gap included for the 2017 year.
Insurance from all sources will only pick up 20% of all medication , 35% of all other medical and theraputic treatments, and 0% of any medical transportation with the exception that they will pick up 50% of cost of ambulance to LOCAL Emergency Room ONLY!
These payment Percentages will remain until RESET OF BENEFITS on 1/1/2017, or until we meet the following criteria:
Pay $4280.00 CASH OUT OF POCKET on Prescription Medication
Pay $1800.00 CASH OUT OF POCKET on Transportation and/ Durable Medical Equipment
Pay 80%, UPTO $2300.00 on Physical Therapy, and / or alternative treatments.
Once we meet ALL of these
OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES, Insurance will label Mike as needing CATASTROPHIC COVERAGE, at which point they will pick up 90% of all medication, treatment, and transportation; once our 10% copay reaches $1700.00, they will pick up 100%. Which is GREAT!
But for now,
We are screwed.
Mike had to discontinue his physical therapy as of last week because transportation to and from therapy alone is $300+ a WEEK !!!
Last week he had to choose between picking up his pain meds or his bloodthinner, both had copays over $600.
Whether you grew up with Mike, know him through a friend, or know him only through Facebook and his NYR site, you know he would give you the shirt off his back, the last nickel in his pocket, or all his time and attention if you just needed someone to listen and/or talk too.
Mike is and always has been strong and determined and he WILL WALK AGAIN, as long as his therapy is not sidelined, I can only do so much and we are limited in that our home is not set up for this. I don't want to see my husband have to choose between being in pain or making sure he does not get bloodclots. He can get in his wheelchair everyday but if his legs are not being exercised properly they will continue to atrophy.
We greatly appreciate any help you can give, even if it's simply praying for him everyday.
Please help me to make sure my husband, and
GREAT FRIEND , to many of you, gets every opportunity avaiable
to get him back to the MIKE we all know and love.
He would, and probably has at one point, done the same for you.
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH,
for all the Love, Support, and Prayers you have given us since the beggining. It means the world to us, and is, along with the love for his family, what keeps mike going
Hugs, Hearts, and Blessings to all
