My adventure continues . . .
I'll be driving to the Midwest in early June to begin an eight-week intensive Thai language course at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. This course is key to fulfilling a graduate program requirement at Cal State Long Beach (CSULB) and an opportunity to meet professionals who share a similar focus on Southeast Asia and Thailand.
In January 2015, I began an MA program in Linguistics at CSULB with the goals of teaching English and conducting educational research in South East Asia—Thailand as 'base-camp.' This language course will help me build a working knowledge of Thai and is a major component in meeting those goals. Your generous participation is critical to my success in meeting this challenge.
English language learning in Southeast Asia is recognized as a key element in the economic advancement and modernization of the region. Yet, successful implementation strategies must navigate a complex labyrinth of broad variation in proficiency levels, competing policies, and diverse populations with wide-ranging and rich language histories and cultures.
I am looking to raise $2,800 by June 20th, the first day of summer, to help defray transportation, food, and living expenses for my project.
Any contribution you make will help assure that I can make this happen, and that my focus is not diverted from my studies for economic reasons. Every dollar counts!
