Damian’s Story
On Wednesday April 27th 2016, Damian was feeling weak and went to the hospital. The doctors diagnosed a Gastrointestinal Perforation (GP) in his large intestine. Damian had to have emergency surgery. Unfortunately due to leaking into the body via the GP, his body and blood had become infected. Following surgery to repair the GP, Damian went into septic shock and died, not once but 3 times and was brought back to life. He has had 4 blood transfusions in the last 2 days to rid his body of infection and his kidneys have failed. Although Damian’s body is damaged, his brain has not been affected. He is in a coma like state now, but can hear us and when we speak to him he gently squeezes our hands.
Damian was 190lbs, but is now a slender 100lbs and is weak.
At the moment, he is on a life support machine to assist his breathing. Intravenous drips provide fluids to keep him hydrated and antibiotics to repair his body. As his kidneys are not expelling fluid, he needs Dialysis. Damian is not strong enough for Dialysis at the moment, so we must wait.
Put simply Damian, at the age of 35 years old, is fighting for his life.
Family members are distraught and sitting at his bed side.
How can we help?
Damian’s care will be expensive in the short and long term. His mother Christine and brother Larry will not be able to cope with the growing expenses on their own. Damian’s father passed away just 4 years ago.
