On September 3, 2015, Nick was in a motorcycle accident. He was heading to work at JBLM in Tacoma, WA and someone dropped a ladder from their vehicle. He tried to get out of the way, but unfortunately it all happened too fast and he ended up ejecting from the motorcycle and colliding with the vehicle in front of him.
His head and body hit the tire of the Tahoe in front of him and became severly injured. He instantly broke 6 ribs on each side, puncturing both lungs, and one lung collapased. He also broke his collar bone and shoulder blade. The worst of it all is that he broke his neck at C5 and C6 and also his back at T4, T8 and L5. The fracture of the vertebra in his neck caused a spinal cord injury that has left him paralzyed.
Nick spent two months in the ICU at Tacoma General. He was lucky to have survived the first night. The Dr didn't expect him to make it but God wasn't finished with him yet. During his stay there he developed phnumonia, suffered a small stroke, minor heart attack, and developed DVT. One of the clots broke off and went to his lung causing him to suffer from a Pulmonary Embolism, almost killing him.
He also developed a pressure ulcer in while in ICU that became so deep it caused a bone infection. The wound has stablized, although it took close to 8 months of bed rest.
He is in a wheelchair and finally starting rehabitation. It has been a long road to get to this place of recovery. Lots of emotion and struggles, but he is doing his best to stay positive and look toward the future as a quadriplegic and the new challenges that it will bring.
This Go Fund Me page was started to help with medical bills, home modifications, and wheelchair accessible van. His income has been cut drastically due to this accident and he is now living on Social Security Disablilty.
Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Every donation helps and will be put to use for much needed medical expenses. If you can't donate, we would ask that you can at least share Nick's story to get the word out.
Thank you very much. God Bless.
