Support for Ron & Karen

Donation protected
My name is Roxanne Lee. I have set up this fund for my sister, Karen Mackin and my brother-in-law Ron Mackin.  Many of you who may be reading this know one or both of them very well. They are good people who come from good families. Like a lot of people in this world, they have had their share of ups and downs but made it through by working hard, going without at times, and staying strong, sticking together.

On Sunday, May 15, Ron woke up without being able to raise his right arm and hardly moving or standing on his right leg. He just thought he slept on the right side the wrong way which created a 'dead' feeling in his limbs. As the morning progressed, he realized there was more to it than that. By 1:30pm that afternoon, he arrived at St. Joseph's Hospital emergency department with Karen and their sons, Travis's and Jared's help. After some initial tests it was determined he had a left brain stroke. After further testing, it was also determined at some point prior to this stroke, he had a silent heart attack as well. To say the least, they were shocked and devastated.

For three and half days, he was in the St. Joseph's CCU with Karen by his side night and day. They had been keeping him stable, performing the necessary tests and lab work, and helping to maintain his blood pressure while waiting to be transported to EMMC.

Thursday, May 19th, he was transported to EMMC, cardiac unit. There they are still trying to manage the blood pressure and started physical therapy. He has had improvement with his right arm, which doctors are very encouraged about however, his right leg hasn't improved at all yet. At some point he will be moved to the acute rehab where he'll experience more intense physical therapy.

There will be a stent or two done for the heart and other necessary procedures but there's no plan in place just yet. The blood pressure is the biggest concern at this time, and that needs to remain stable before they can move forward with fixing the heart.

Needless to say, he has a long road ahead of him. He has a cardiologist, a neurologist, a physical therapist, and others all working hard to getting Ron better. Full recovery is a possibility but not a certainty.

He's unable to work (their only source of income) and Karen has been by his side 24/7 since the beginning. Though they have a social worker helping them to receive future disability benefits and provide some housing options, they have no income coming in at this time. They currently live in a third floor apartment and will need to move to a first floor, handicap accessible apartment as soon as possible.

They don't have a lot of debt however, they will need some financial help to get through the upcoming weeks and months. I wanted to create this fund with the hopes that we could raise some money to help support them with some of their current expenses such as a vehicle payment, cell phone bill, electricity bill, food, and gas, and the bills they will acquire such as moving expenses, prescriptions, etc.

If you could find it in your heart to make any size monetary donation for them, it would be ever so appreciated!

Thank you for taking the time to read their story. And thank you in advance for helping my family! God Bless You!
