ABOUT EmpowerHER:
Empower HER serves to increase the attendance of school girls in marginalized communities by providing reproductive education and reusable menstruation products. In doing so, Empower HER strives to embolden young women to be future leaders and agents of their own bodies.
WHO WE ARE:
EmpowerHER is a student-initiated organization that combines service and health education to increase young school girl attendance. We began our efforts in San Victor, where young girls skip or drop out of school because they lack proper knowledge and resources to manage menstruation. As a result, their quality of education and number of opportunities after primary education decline. Our organization embraces this fundamental yet basic need, for it empowers young women to live life uninterrupted.
FUNDRAISING:
We coordinate a pen pal program between students at Loyola Marymount University and Rural High School in Belize to learn about what makes us unique yet similar young women. We hope to do five or more rounds of letters. We are also fundraising to hold workshops at the school in Belize this year. We would provide the funding so that a trained team in Belize can educate the girls and provide them with period products. To move forward with the pen pal program and the workshop we need to fundraise to support the team abroad, communication between our teams, and to provide supplies to give overseas. We appreciate all of your support!
