Let's Do Something Nice For Em

Hi Guys

Today, I want you to donate $10 to help my friend Em.

Many of you know Emma Betts.  She's my now 25 year old former babysitter who was diganosed with stage 4 melanoma at the age of 22. Her blog Dear Melanoma - where she chronicles the ups and downs of having a terminal condition as a young person - is followed by thousands of people across the country. Em has never held back in sharing with us all the heartbreaking lows and beautiful highs of her life  - including marrying her soul mate Serge and her struggle to come to terms with the fact she is unlikely to see her 27th birthday (or have children which was always her dream).

All she has ever wanted is the chance to grow old.

You'll also know that Em has been a tireless fundraiser and awareness raiser for the Melanoma Insitute of Australia.  To date Em's soirees, walks and raffles have raised around $100,000 for melanoma research.

But now she needs your help. My friend EJ (the gorgeous Emily Jade O'Keeffe) contacted me last night to let me know that Emma is currently in a bit of a bad place right now (understandably).  Her latest blood test results haven't been great and Em is now truly forced to think about the fact she may not have long to go. She's now having to save up for things like palliative care.

And you know what she really wants to do? She wants to renovate her damn kitchen. (I've been in her kitchen and yeah, no offence Em but it could do with a bit of an overhaul).  I think she also just wants a project to think about so she doesn't have to keep dwelling on the fact she's dying.

Emily-Jade said to me, "We need to get Em a kitchen."
And so Ej and I hatched a plan.

So here's where you come in. Let's see if we can raise some money for Emma to do her kitchen.  Originally I said any money we raise over our target of $10,000 will go to the Melanoma Insitute  Australia.  But I'm binning that idea.  Any money left over can be used by Em for a holiday or a photo session or pavlova ingredients or even for her future medical/palliative care expenses.

EJ and I have known Em a long time now. She's fierce and smart and before this freak diagnosis she was working as an aid worker. And in the years since her diagnosis she's been raising money for melanoma research like a crazy woman.  Even though she is terminal she has been working her arse off to make sure if any of US get melanoma, we have a better chance of survival. So now it's time for Em to feel the love.  If anyone deserves some kindness showered upon her -- it's this young woman. And let me say this was EJ's idea in the first place.  Thank you Ej for getting me on-board.  People, go your hardest.      Bec and EJ xx
