Hello Friends. You may know our neighbors, Joon and Hye kyung Kim. Joon worked (and still does) at Fred Meyer, and Twin Lakes Cafe was theirs for years; they created beautiful and delicious lunches inside the VTRC Building. Over the years, they generously provided sushi and lunches for many groups, including Jesuit volunteers.  In the summer of 2014, Hye kyung was diagnosed with a brain tumor; they travelled to Seattle where she had brain surgery, and began to recover. When they returned to Juneau months later, they were able to resume their business at Twin Lakes Cafe, and Joon returned to Fred Meyer. They had used a good bit of their savings, and at the time, Hye kyung was doing better and they were hopeful about replenishing their savings. Within a year however, they were back in Seattle for another brain surgery for Hye kyung. This time they were there for months. They had to close their business, this time for good, (and still pay rent). They had medical and living expenses that depleted the savings they'd worked for for decades. When I saw Joon last week when he was working at Fred Meyer, I wanted to help, and I knew the Juneau community would also want to help. I do not know the extent of their debt; I only know they are in need, and $10,000 seemed a minimal start. This family has supported neighbors in need, and now they are in need. I asked Joon if it would be ok if I reached out to fundraise through social media, and he agreed. I know he has many friends who have no idea of his current circumstances.
