DANE THOMPSON IS IN THE FIGHT OF HIS LIFE AND NEEDS OUR HELP!
Dear friends and family of Dane,
On Friday, July 31, 2020, Dane met with an oncologist to go over his PET SCAN. A few days prior, a biopsy had confirmed he had esophageal cancer. The PET SCAN only brought more bad news - Dane was diagnosed with inoperable, terminal, Stage IV Adenocarcinoma. And, it had already spread from his esophagus to his abdomen, liver, and lymph nodes.
The following week, Dane began radiation and chemo treatments - 13 radiation and numerous chemo sessions. Plan A chemo treatments caused several complications resulting in extended hospital stays, including:
- Pericarditis (inflammation of the heart);
- Installation of a feeding tube into his stomach (Dane has not been able to swallow solid food, or even liquids much of the time, in months); and
- Fluid drainage from his abdomen (in three sessions his doctor has removed over five liters of fluid each time).
- As I write this (it is about 1am), Dane is in the ER again and was just checked in to address problems with his feeding tube (installed just seven days ago). UPDATE: 3 days later - Dane is still in the hospital and the cancer has spread even further.
The complications noted above indicated Plan A chemo was not working (according to his doctor) and there is no Plan B at this time.
Cancer, radiation/chemo treatments, and complications, have left Dane very, very weak. In addition to his regular ER visits and hospital stays, Dane also has several appointments with his doctors each week.
As you may have deduced, Dane is no longer able to work. Thankfully, his company insurance will begin paying him short term (6 months) disability benefits in October. However, short term disability benefits equal only about 1/2 of Dane’s work salary. If he is unable to work after 6 months, long term disability benefits pay even less.
BOTTOM LINE:
DANE NEEDS OUR HELP to hopefully defray his regular monthly and growing medical expenses. He also does not want to leave any personal debt that could impact his mother and fiancé.
We set up this GoFundMe page in an effort to get some financial relief for Dane and his family.
Asking all who are able to please consider donating whatever you can to help Dane. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps.
ALL DONATIONS GO DIRECTLY TO DANE. Hopefully, our contributions will go a long way towards relieving some of the stresses Dane, due to his condition, is forced to face daily.
Sadly, Dane’s time with all of us is limited. With our help, he can forget about some of the things causing stress and focus on the things most important to him - family and friends.
We are incredibly grateful and appreciative of your support for Dane. Please help if you can!
