As members of the 1804 Society at Emmanuel College we have been taught about the mission of our college and the astounding work completed by the Sisters of Notre Dame De Nemur. As 1804 affiliates, we have assumed the role of continuing to carry out the message of the sisters to our fellow classmates and surrounding community. Each week we are presented with opportunities to discover more about our college's history and to work closely on different projects with the Sisters.
Sr. Isabelle is a principal at a school in the Congo living out the mission of the SNDs. However, the lack of resources and finances drastically impacts the education of her students. Many students drop out before the end of the school year due to the lack of money. Such a small amount of money in the U.S. can go so far in Africa. At Sister Isabelle's school, just fifty dollars can provide one student with an education for an entire year.
Taking Sr. Isabelle's story to heart inspired us to give back to her. On Sunday April 7, 2013 members of the 1804 Society will set out to run the 2013 Fool's Dual Half Marathon/5k in her honor and to raise money for her school. We hope that with your financial support we will be able to send Sr. Isabelle money to purchase basic classroom supplies for her school in the Congo. As college students we have learned that every penny counts and therefore would appreciate any spare change you have to offer!
Last year we raised $1000 for Sr. Isabelle's school and hope to double that amount this year!
