Aloha! My name is Jaye Orikasa. I was born and raised on Maui, and now I'm working in Los Angeles as a Video Producer and Post Production Supervisor.
I am producing a freelance documentary on shave ice in Hawai'i, combining my passion for storytelling, food, and education. This documentary will explore the cultural history and significance of shave ice in the islands, from immigration and plantation life to its widespread popularity today.
Filming will begin in mid-February, and the projected completion date is June 2022. The crew will be filled with passionate creatives, working without compensation. However, creating a film and ensuring an environment that's safe for everyone involved can add up in expenses. I am seeking $3,500 for production and post-production materials, equipment rentals, and festival and distribution fees so we can share this story with a bigger audience!
