Hello everyone. My name is Susie Douglas and I'm on a mission to raise awareness on the rise in cases of Colon Cancer by riding 2500 miles across the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. The purpose of the bike ride is to educate and fundraise for the Helen G. Nassif Community Center located in Cedar Rapids, IA. You may be curious as to why this specific center? Please continue reading.
Did you know that Colon cancer is on the rise in younger people?
In 2019, my 38 year old brother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer, meaning cancer had spread to numerous vital organs of his body. This was a surprise to EVERYONE including his medical staff. He was only 38 years old!
Throughout my brothers ongoing battle with cancer, the Helen G. Nassif center continues to be crucial in providing emotional and financial support for him and hundreds of other Cedar Rapids residents. They offer free massages, provide social workers, help with requests for the Dream Foundation. They're amazing!!!
How will I accomplish this fundraiser for Helen G. Nassif ( besides riding a bike for 2500 miles)?
I am looking for sponsors to help subset the cost of groceries, occasional hostel stays, laundry and hot showers for the 2500 mile journey ($1/mile). Estimated time on the bike = 60 days. . This donation will be fundamental towards helping a Larger fundraising goal for the Helen G. Nassif Community Cancer center, while also raising awareness on the rise of colon cancer in younger adults.
All Sponsors will receive a personalized post card and shout out via Instagram/Facebook, recognizing their support in an effort to help a great cause. Please include your mailing address with any donation. Thanks for reading! Find out more about Helen G Nassif
