250 Miles for 250 Years of Tabernacle
In 2024, Tabernacle Congregational Church in Haverfordwest is celebrating its 250th anniversary. This is a moment of celebration for us, looking back on our legacy of faith and service in the community, and looking forward to what God has in store for us for the next 250 years. The way forward is not without its challenges. Our Grade II*-listed church is an important piece of Welsh Nonconformist heritage and an architectural landmark, but is under threat due to significant water damage, and in need of modernising renovations to make it fit for purpose as a contemporary community and worship space, fully accessible to all. Our plans for community outreach and innovations in worship are ambitious, but limited resources and the difficulties with our church building make the realisation of these ambitions difficult.
So, in commemoration of our important milestone, I am walking 250 miles--one for each year Tabernacle has existed--along the storied Welsh coast, to raise funds for Tabernacle's ministries and missions. Starting in Amroth, in the southeastern corner of Pembrokeshire, on 19 June, I will hike for 13 days, ending in Aberystwyth, on Cardigan Bay. Alongside the famous natural beauty of the Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion coasts, I will be visiting sites of spiritual significance like St Govan's Chapel, St Dogmael's Abbey, and St David's Cathedral.
Please consider helping Tabernacle as it prepares for the next stage of its own pilgrimage, looking ahead to the next 250 years of guiding people on the Way of Jesus. Many thanks and may God be with each of you.
