Hello and thank you all who have taken the time to read about our little Lucas. We never imagined going swimming in a lake on a beautiful sunny day would end us up at Mayo Clinic for our baby boy 7 months later. Our 2.5yr year old son is having a fecal transplant December 12th, 2023 @ Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. After a 6month long battle with C-Diff Colitis, failed 16 week course antibiotics, went septic in August and hospitalized for this infection. He just cannot get rid of it. After fighting insurance to cover the only other antibiotic that cost $5,000, we are scheduled for a fecal transplant 12/12/2023. I've heard of weird things people can do for money including people donating their poop, stool, feces ; but never in a million years did I think my baby boy would be in need of one of those donations!
Between missing work for doctors appointments, ER visits, hospitalizations in the last 6 months has gotten us a little behind on bills, but we are greatful we have food and a warm bed at night.
Mommy has also had her fair share of medical issues during the same time. I could not hold food down for months, thinking just hormones balancing out after pregnancy with baby brother, Lincoln (our second 11 month old son). Come to find out after an endoscopy; it was/is actually a stomach ulcer. Caused by eating ibuprofen like candy for migraines and stress. The amount of missing nutrition, gave me the need for 2 iron infusions as well. Again, losing work hours.
Followed, of course, by COVID hitting our house, getting myself and baby brother (104 temp) the 2nd week of November. Lost work days. Luckily, Lucas stayed with Grandma for 2.5 days and missed covid! Now what lies ahead is missing more work for the final attempt of treatment for our strong Lucas. The success rate of the transplant to treat cdiff is 90%-95%!
We just fear and stress to the extreme on finances every day getting closer to transplant date, on top of the fear for the health of our son, but also knowing we cannot work the week after his transpant while already wiped out both my husband and I's sick banks, PTO, vacation time.
On short notice, the future beholds more costs for travel (6hr drive one way), food, lodging costs during our stay at Mayo Clinic to travel from central Illinois to Minnesota for this treatment. We have looked into RonaldMcDonald, but you cannot apply ahead of time as they are first come first serve. Our stay will not be long enough to qualify. The background check itself for each individual is 48hrs. We are extremely blessed to have the care team we have gained throughout this journey! As well as supporting friends, family, & co-workers!
Please say a prayer tonight for our strong boy, Lucas L. Fisher.
God bless & Happy Thanksgiving!
-Wholeheartedly, The Fishers
