This Morning, My Mom's Restaurant Caught Fire — 25 Years Gone in One Night

At 3 AM on March 23rd, we received a call that would change our family forever. My mom's restaurant — a community staple in Pixley for over 25 years — had caught fire due to an electrical issue from a neighboring business. We rushed from Delano, and by the time we arrived, we found the building engulfed in flames and smoke. It was a heartbreaking image none of us will ever forget.

The fire destroyed everything. Not just my mom's restaurant, but two neighboring businesses as well.

My mom has dedicated more than two decades of her life to this place. She works six days a week, nine to ten hours a day. This restaurant isn't just her livelihood — it's her life's work, and it provides income for multiple members of our family. It has been a home, a gathering place, and a constant in our community for longer than some of her customers can remember.

Now, through no fault of her own, she has nothing to go back to.

We are currently working with insurance and our landlord to understand what coverage and support may be available, but with fire damage this extensive, we are looking at a reconstruction period of six months or more. That's six months or more without income, without stability, and without the place she has poured herself into for over 25 years.

We are raising funds for four urgent needs:

  • Living expenses — so my mom has income to support herself while she is out of work during the reconstruction period.
  • Legal representation — to ensure she has proper counsel as we navigate insurance claims and landlord negotiations, and to protect her in the event responsibility is disputed.
  • Debris removal and cleanup — clearing out the fire damage so that the space can be assessed and the path to rebuilding can begin.
  • Rebuilding costs — to help restore what was lost and give my mom a real chance at reopening and reclaiming what she has spent 20 years building.

Any amount helps. Every dollar shared matters.

Thank you for being part of our community and for standing with our family in this incredibly difficult moment.
