I met with my surgical Oncologist last week and went over the treatment plan. Chemo, radiation and surgery...ASAP! My cancer is very aggressive and will spread quickly if not treated! I have 2 different types of cancer, Invasive Lobular Carcinoma and Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I'm currently staged at 3c but will have a PET Scan on Wednesday to determine how much the cancer has spread and where. Of course this strikes a nerve and takes every bit of my faith not to respond in fear! The Drs want to be very aggressive and use even stronger chemo than the last time. This is very concerning to me. I know what my body went through and I am still dealing with the damage. The surgery is pretty much guaranteed to cause permanent damage and maybe even deformities. I refused radiation before due the risk of damage to my lungs and heart. The Drs are now wanting to go forward with it despite the risks due to the aggressiveness. I'm concerned with all of this but the chemo option has the worst odds! I thought the chemo at least worked the last time despite the awful response I had to it. My Dr said that according to my records the chemo did not work. Thus the decision to use stronger drugs this time. Red flags all around! I'm being sent to MD Anderson in Houston for a second opinion. I know they will be serving the same menu just presented on a different platter, but my hope is that they will be able to provide maintenance infusions I will need for possibly the next 2 years. My current Dr says that although this hospital has the infusion treatments they don't give them to cancer patients! These infusions boost the immune system and actually fight the cancer. I was told that even if I got them to approve the infusions it would take months or longer. Time I don't have to wait! With the help of other cancer survivors who used alternative treatments we are consulting with roughly 5 different hospitals all over the country as well as Mexico and Germany! Although these treatments have been around for well over 50 years with much higher success rates than traditional chemo they are not FDA approved. With no approval they are therefore not covered by insurance. There are numerous medical studies, over 20-30 years worth, and clinical trials done that have proven the effectiveness of these treatments. All of the hospitals we are consulting with have been verified and inspected by an outside source. I am putting together a list of the studies and clinical trials as well as the hospital names for anyone interested but it will be a week or so before I can complete it due to my appt schedule this week. I'll spend most of the week with consulting and meeting with my oncology team for more testing, 2nd, 3rd opinions etc. For additional information on how you can help please contact my daughter Danielle.
