Hi everyone! Senior dogs need your help! Many of you know that Nell (Nellie/Nelson to me), our 16-year-old cocker spaniel came to us from Menifee, California a couple of years ago. She was fostered, along with 24 other dogs–mostly cockers–by an amazing independent rescuer named Carolyn G.

From what we know, Nelson was a puppy mill mum, dropped off at the pound because she was too old to deliver another litter.

Luckily, Carolyn took her in and gave her a safe, clean, loving home, took care of her as she was recovering from surgery and facilitated her adoption. Today, she is spunky, healthy and living her best life here with us in Canada. Our vet calls her a “superdog”!

My family is making this Go-Fund-Me to help support Carolyn’s fostering of senior dogs until they are adopted or until their very last breath. Carolyn has put her whole heart, every ounce of her energy, social security and life savings into fostering dogs, many of them seniors who are hard to place. She cares for 25 dogs at a time, by herself, day in and day out, on a small, but very tidy, plot of land in hot, dry So-Cal. When we learned that Carolyn had lost her main source of foster-funding, we knew it was time to reach out to you.

Everything we raise here is going straight to the dogs Carolyn fosters. Senior dogs often need soft/canned food, which costs Carolyn about $150-200 USD a month, $200 USD a month covers routine vetting only, on top of this there’s dental care, injections (for itching and scratching, arthritis meds…) vitamins, ear wash solution... and Carolyn does all their grooming herself. All in all it’s a 24/7/365 days a year labour of love.

Gas is $15 USD a trip to the vet, and at three times a week that’s about $45-50 USD. And we must make sure Carolyn has a full tank of gas in her truck at all times, in case of a wildfire (don’t worry, she has 25 crates and a trailer to evacuate the dogs on very short notice).

Please, if you can manage a $25 donation (think of it as a dollar a dog), that would be incredible! But any amount would be really appreciated. While this campaign is open, we will keep you posted with updates on what is going on in Menifee.
