Hello all! You may remember in 2018 when Joshua Taylor went into total organ shutdown. He spent 180 days in the hospital at UK in Lexington, KY. Your contributions during that devastating time is what kept us from being homeless, and we cannot thank you enough. In the time since Josh’s release; he has worked diligently to learn how to walk again, drive a car, and build enough strength to be strong enough to survive a heart/kidney transplant. I, his wife Jill, was eventually approved to be his paid caregiver through Medicaid. All was going well until around the beginning of August of this year when he began experiencing all-too familiar symptoms of heart failure. We scheduled an early appointment on the first of September with the cardiac clinic to see if something was wrong. After tests were done, Joshua was admitted into ICU that day with right-side heart failure. As of now he is still in ICU and has been moved up to status 1B on the heart/kidney transplant list. His doctors anticipate he will remain in the Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington until the organs become available. Being blood type O+, needing at least a 6’ donor because of Josh’s height, the need of two organs, and general lack of donors makes Josh’s wait-time unpredictable and definitely longer than most. After transplant, he will remain in the hospital for 2-4 weeks for observation and then move to an off-campus apartment in Lexington to be available for daily check-ins. For 13 years Josh has been fighting heart failure, after misdiagnosed strep throat attacked his heart. This is his last big push before he can gets the healthy heart and lifestyle he’s been dreaming of for so long. Because of their double-billing policy, Medicaid will not pay me as well as a professional medical staff to take care of Joshua during his wait in the hospital. So all we have coming in for the foreseeable future is his disability check. We know everyone is struggling during this time, so please do not give if you are unable. But if you are able to contribute, we are raising funds to help pay our bills until I can again be paid as his caregiver. Thank you all so much for all you’ve done for us until this point, we owe you everything
