Jen's Miracle

Donation protected
My sister, Jennifer Lamb, was diagnosed at age 47 with Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer. The worst day of our lives. She had no symptoms, was running five days a week, and thought she was in the best shape of her life.

Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death from gynecological cancers in the United States, and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among American women.

A women’s lifetime risk of developing the disease is 1 in 75 and dying from the disease, 1 in 100. Over 80% of Ovarian Cancer patients are diagnosed when they are Stage 3 and Stage 4. There are only 4 stages of Ovarian Cancer, stages 3 and 4 the most serious; with involvement of the lymph nodes and metastatic disease.

Jennifer had Stage 3C; where both ovaries, the fallopian tubes, the omentum, the uterus, and the lymph nodes had evidence of cancer.

The day after her diagnosis, Dr. Bradley Monk from the University of Arizona Cancer Center in Phoenix, AZ, performed a radical hysterectomy to remove the 8 inch tumors and all other signs of the cancer. Two weeks after that, she started aggressive chemotherapy with biological therapy; 8 hour days every 3 weeks for 20 weeks. She continued biological chemotherapy for 18 months.

While the cancer affected her is so many ways – her job, her family, her health, her emotions – she never let it win. She lost everything, her business she had built from the ground up for 17 years, her hair, her confidence and almost her life. Yet, she truly believed that it was not something that would get the best of her.

Now, 2 ½ years later, Dr. Monk calls her “his miracle”. She is in remission now with hope that she remains in remission.

Jennifer wants to be an advocate for Ovarian Cancer, spread the word about this devastating disease, and raise money for medical research. In spite of the pressing need, ovarian cancer research is drastically under- funded.

ALL funds raised will go to help The Society of Gynecological Oncology’s (SGO) Foundation for Women’s Cancer, which is dedicated to increasing awareness of gynecological cancer risk, prevention, early detection, optimal treatment, and gynecological cancer research and the University of Arizona Cancer Treatment Center, care of Dr. Bradley Monk, MD. The University of Arizona Cancer Treatment Center is a multi-disciplinary Cancer Center that treats all types of malignancies, located in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona.

Please support her efforts. She hopes to run in the 7th Annual National Race to End Women’s Cancer on November 6, 2016 in Washington, D.C. which supports The Foundation for Women’s Cancer. Her son, Branden, and her husband, Rob, will also run. All monies donated will be presented to The Foundation for Women’s Cancer and The University of Arizona Cancer Treatment Center at this time.
