Hi my name is Taylor Spung, and for the past 10 years, I have been living with Stargardt's Macular Degeration; an eye disease that effects my retina , causing me to lose my central vision.
For the past 10 years, I have always dreamed of a device that could convert text to audio, and it is finally here. The OrCam is a wearable smart camera that reads for me. With OrCam, I will no longer have to rely on friends, family, and strangers to read documents, signs, labels, or menus. With the OrCam, I will finally be able to walk into a store without having to ask for help.
I will be able to read everything on the menu, instead of asking my friend to find something I might like. I will be able to navigate my way through downtown, and I will finally be able to read an actual book (which I haven't been able to do in 10 years.)
I have been able to get by for the past 10 years with the amazing help form those around me, and for those of you who do know me, I struggle with asking for help. However, now I need help more than ever. I am getting ready to move out, and with that comes some scary steps. A new job, a new home, a new town, and for someone with a visual impairment, making that change seems almost impossible.
The OrCam has been my dream for the past 10 years and I am asking for the financial support to make that dream come true, and to finally get me one step closer to freedom.
I have attached a link to the OrCam website, so that you can take a closer look to see what its all about!

Thank you!
