Betty A. Moreno

This is my niece Betty Aileen. A healthy, happy, energetic 20 year old that was working two jobs and finishing school to be in the medical field. On August 26th she was taken to the emergency room with abdominal pain. Shortly after arriving at the hospital she was told she would be having emergency surgery. During surgery for what ended up being a horrible infection in her stomach from a ruptured cyst, her appendix also ruptured and they also had to remove one of her ovaries, her appendix and a lot of stomach tissue. The doctors told her mother that the infection was the worst he had ever seen especially on such a young person. After surgery Betty was fighting for her life, had temperatures past 107 and now in septic shock, her liver and kidneys were being compromised. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. After a week and half in the ICU and being on ventilators Betty finally opened her eyes to realize it wasn’t just a horrible nightmare. With ICU Doctors and staff cheering for her in disbelief that she had survived such a horrible medical emergency. Luckily she is young and her body keeps fighting.. She will be in the hospital for many weeks to come and with no medical insurance as of yet, she will need all the financial help she can get. Every parent’s worst nightmare is their child getting sick or hurt, and with Covid she has been battling this all alone at the hospital. No one there to wipe her tears and hold her hand letting her know she will get through this. Betty is very lucky to be alive, but still has a lot of time left in the hospital and with future surgeries arising and therapy, her physical and financial burden will be difficult. Her Mother Leslie will not be able to work while she cares for Betty 24/7 after she gets out of the hospital, and with two other siblings in the house, any financial help will be critical for helping their family through this tough time.
