Come together for Jean Paul & Emily
Donation protected
Hi. My name is Karen Bonvecchio and I am setting up this GoFundMe page with the hope that together we can help with the health recovery of Jean Paul Arias, the much-loved nephew of my dear friend Susy Acosta Ayub. Specifically, we are asking for donations to give Emily, Jean Paul's mother, the ability to care for Jean Paul on a full-time basis.
Until April 12th of this year, Jean Paul was an active 22 year old young man who loved sports and socializing, and who valued spending time with close friends and family - especially with his two sisters, Paulina and Federica. Whenever possible, Jean Paul would also join forces with his cousin Alex, Susy's son. Alex and Jean Paul love each other as brothers. Susy loves Jean Paul as a second son.
In April, Jean Paul was attending college and working and was just a few weeks away from completing the last credits he needed in order to graduate and begin his five year contract in the special force division with the armed forces.
Unfortunately all of JP's plans and dreams came to an abrupt halt on that day in April. At about five o'clock in the afternoon, Jean Paul left home on his motorcycle to go to the gym. (JP is a licensed motorcycle driver and was wearing his helmet at the time.) Just a few blocks away from home, still inside his residential neighborhood, a woman (who says she did not see him) pulled out of a driveway in front of JP when he was only 5 feet away. Jean Paul had no time to brake or veer away and he hit her SUV, crashing head first into the passenger side door. JP's family was told it was as though he hit a solid wall at 30 miles per hour. He was transported by the rescue team to Halifax Medical Center where Jean Paul was admitted in critical condition - totally unconscious and hanging onto life by a thread.
Jean Paul sustained a substantial traumatic brain injury and was induced into a clinical coma. He was hooked to a ventilator for two and a half weeks. He spent two months in ICU during which he suffered many life threatening complications including severe swellling of the brain and pneumonia. He has had to have surgery and countless other procedures done. As his condition became more stabilized, Jean Paul was transferred to a regular hospital room, slowly but surely he regained consciousness. He is now alert and has started to undergo many therapies.
Jean Paul's family is thankful to God for his miraculous progress. They are thankful that he was a strong young man who was in good physical condition, healthy and young which helps. Nevertheless, they believe he is a living miracle in the making and is very blessed to have many family members and friends praying, against all odds, for his total recovery.
For the past three months and through to the present, his mother and his aunt Susy take turns staying with him in the hospital at all times. The doctors tell them this constant attention, love, companionship, interaction and stimulation has been extremely beneficial for his recovery. They say it is vital that he feel their presence, love, support and he receive the extra care they give him. They say the extent of his ultimate recovery depends upon it.
Recently, Jean Paul was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation medical facility where he will be for a matter of weeks. After that, he will be sent home where he will need full-time care until he fully recovers and is able to care for himself. Jean Paul's mother would like to give him the care he needs, but that would require her to stop working. She needs all the support she can get in order to care for Jean Paul at home. This does not include, of course, all the additional help she will need for him - a hospital bed, outpatient rehabilitation, special transportation services and unforeseen expenses.
In a family conference meeting yesterday, the insurance company told Emily that, starting next week, her options are to take her son home and care for him there without the assistance of any home nursing services or support, or to send him to a nursing home where he will be bathed once a day and fed three times a day, but nothing more.
As you can well imagine, Emily wants to take Jean Paul home, but to do so, she will need to be there with him. And to be there with him means leaving her current job. And leaving her current job means she needs some way to help support her family's basic needs. And that's where you and I come in. By pitching in together, we can help alleviate some of the financial burdens on Emily to allow her to care for Jean Paul and to provide him with the level of stimulation, encouragement and personal therapy that he needs to get better.
Please prayerfully consider whether you can help with Jean Paul's full recovery by helping Emily, his mother, with your financial support. Jean Paul and his family will be eternally grateful and will forever keep you in their prayers.
May God bless your generous heart.
