Young Family in need of housing in Knoxville, TN
Donation protected
COVID-19 wreaked havoc on our financial situation, and my husband, a Marine Veteran, even drove Uber to help make ends meet. Unfortunately, we were served with an eviction notice after almost 4 years of living in this house. We tried to make arrangements with our landlord because we really don’t want to uproot our family and disrupt our young children’s lives. However, the landlord not only refuses to work with us during this time of need (even despite our good track record of payment), but they also want to increase our rent while ignoring their responsibility to provide the necessary repairs to make this property livable.
My husband and I have filed for housing assistance vouchers through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) because my husband is a former Marine. This is a long process but will ultimately help stabilize our housing. My husband is also eligible for disability – he has a heart condition, Crohn’s disease and herniated discs in his back – and we are awaiting the VA’s decision to receive disability assistance which will further stabilize our income.
In the meantime, my family of 5 is in desperate need of housing. I have two children under the age of 3 and a 14-yr old who need a secure homelife that I’ve been able to provide for the years prior to this pandemic.
Please donate to help us pay moving expenses and secure a stable home. If you have connections to a good landlord who can help us out, I would be so grateful.
I’m terrified that my family will be homeless, and we just can’t seem to get ahead. It’s taking a lot for me to ask for help, but I have no choice. Our circumstances are dire, and I need to do this for my boys. I am forever grateful for your help and kindess.
Thank you,
Cortney, Jacob, William, Mason and Ethan
