As someone who has been a part of this family for so long, it is very important to me that I am able to share this incredible man's story. Michael Rooney had always been the cool dad that lived down the block. His enthusiasm and love for music and his family was infectious.  He was a beloved father, husband, son(in-law), brother (in-law), uncle, nephew, cousin and friend.




Michael never failed to make sure there was always a smile on everybody's face. As big of a heart that this man had, unfortunately, there were demons inside of him that he just couldn't overcome. After fighting harder than anyone could imagine, Mike lost his battle with depression on May 14, 2016.




I created this page, not only to raise money for the people that meant the most to him, his wife Kathy and their three beautiful children, Emily, Alex and Daniel, but also to bring awareness to this debilitating disease. Depression is a hushed epidemic that deserves to be brought into the light in order to get people the support and help they feel isn't provided.




Anyone who knew Mike can understand just how shocking the news of his passing was. He really was the most fun-loving, generous, caring, incredible human being. I find comfort in knowing that I, and everyone who knew him, is left with nothing but wonderful memories.




Michael was not his illness.

He was an individual with a story to tell.

He has a name, a history and a legacy.

All of which will continue to live on through those he loved.




Please help me in easing one of the burdens that this family is going to endure, as there will be many following Mike's passing. I also want to bring awareness to the overwhelming number of people suffering with depression, in hopes that one day this illness will not have the power to destroy any more people as it did this extraordinary man.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
