Hello! My name is Mary Kate Douglas, and I am a senior studying cinema and digital art at Elon University. I am attempting to write and direct a short film to complete my degree and provide a final piece that reflects all I have learned while in college. This is why I need your help!

Over the past four years at Elon, I have had many incredible opportunities to be on both student and professionally-run film sets. These experiences inspired and prepared me to attempt my most ambitious body of work yet. It still feels unreal how far I have come since those early days fumbling through class projects.

"Incomplete" tells the story of Dot, an artist struggling with confidence, who is forced to face her fears when one of her paintings is accidentally hung at a gallery event. The story is largely inspired by my mother, who was an art teacher all my young life and recently decided to become a full-time artist.

Growing up, she put paintbrushes in my hands before pencils, and it was clear I shared her interest in the arts. Reflecting on this, I realized the impact it has had on the way we communicate. Understanding how it feels to be an artist, constantly questioning yourself and the substance of your self-expression, is something that connects all creative minds.

I hope to capture this connection through film, analyzing the intersection of the two art forms. With a topic so close to me and essential to my final year in college, I need support to do this idea justice. The money raised via GoFundMe will provide that support. We aim to raise $2,300 to cover equipment rentals, location costs, actor compensation, and meals for the cast and crew giving up their time to make this all possible. An additional $1,000 has been graciously offered by Elon's School of Communications and will go toward an industry-grade editor and festival submission fees in the spring.

Many talented, dedicated people have already given their time and energy to this idea. They mean the world to me, and I hope that by the completion of this project they will have as much pride in it as I do. Your donation will help all of us achieve that.
