Terry and Val spent the month in Phoenix, Arizona. They got a chance to visit family and friends and they played many rounds of golf and had many laughs together. They drove to AZ so they could pull their golf cart. On the way back from their trip, Terry started not feeling well. He went to the doctor shortly after getting back in town and the doctors treated him for a cold and eventually thought he had pneumonia. It wasn't just his lungs, he had terrible pain in his legs, stomach, etc. After several weeks of not getting better and doctors not aggressively trying to find out what was going on, Terry ended up in the emergency room at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids after Val calling paramedics. Terry was extremely weak, couldn't breath and in horrible pain. This was on Saturday, April 23. Things began to go downhill quickly. In the emergency room they discovered Terry had blood clots in both legs, and both lungs. The doctors admitted him to the hospital, and they continued to do tests. Specialists were called in, including an oncologist. After many blood tests, CT scans, PET scan and MRI, the oncologist said Terry has cancer in both lungs, pancreas, hip, and lymph nodes throughout his body. It is stage 4 cancer.
Terry started chemo on Friday, May 6th and had his second round in Friday, May 13th.
After he completed his chemo treatment on May 13th, he was re-admitted into the hospital due to weakness in the right side of his body.
On Saturday, May 14th Terry spent 4 hours having a MRI of the brain and spine. Unfortunately the MRI showed that the cancer has moved quickly into the brain and several places in the spine. Doctors believe the chemo is not working, and they think the loss of strength on his right side is due to the cancer in the brain.
Terry and Val met Sunday, May 15th with the oncologist, neurologist and an intern. They spelled everything out. Since the chemo is not working, Friday’s treatment was his last.
The doctors said they could do radiation on the brain, but it would make him sick and very weak. The options that were given were to determine if he wants quality or quantity of life.
Terry, Val, Gerrid and Taylor discussed this on the evening of Sunday, May 16th and have decided they want quality.
So going forward, Terry’s chemo treatment has ended and the decision for radiation has been not to do it. He will continue to be on the steroids and pain meds as needed. Fortunately, the steroids right now are helping and he does not currently need the pain meds. Hospice folks met with Terry and Val on Sunday and are meeting with them again at home today, Monday May 16th after supplies are delivered, i.e. a hospital bed and special bathtub, etc.
Terry is so happy to be going home!
The McMorrows are happy to have him home, and in the days and weeks ahead, Terry will be comfortable and at peace in his own home. He will be given care from in-home hospice as well as his loving Val, Gerrid and Sarah (Elsie) and Taylor.
The McMorrow family has been standing firm in the love and goodness of Jesus Christ throughout this entire ordeal. They are praying for peace, comfort and Gods miracle over Terry. This GoFundMe site is meant to provide an opportunity to give financially for those who love Terry and want to help the family with the significant financial costs associated with his care.
Thank you so much for your prayers and for coming alongside the family in this way.
Much love.
