This page is dedicated to raising funds to help our mother, Julia (Julie) Evangelista to sustain the medical costs for her percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and related medical expenses.
Our mom is currently in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada with our Dad visiting our eldest sister, Cristina and her family to meet our nieces and nephew and to also help my sister in taking care of the 3 kids as my sister has been having health issues. Our sister tried to apply for sponsorship for our parents to be permanent residents of Canada but the process is a long shot so they are still waiting for the program to start accepting application again.
Though my mom had history of hypertension and diabetes and is on maintenance drug, there was no heart issues traced on her last medical test before she flew to Canada in 2015. In fact, it was our dad who has more health issues especially heart problem, hence, mom went ahead of dad to Winnipeg since dad needed to repeat his medical tests a few times. He recently followed mom to Winnipeg and she and dad are supposed to come back to the Philippines in November until mom had to be brought to the emergency on Friday the 13th of May.
It was found out that mom has coronary artery disease which led to a heart attack. Mom underwent coronary angiogram and immediately underwent percutaneous coronary invention to open up the blocked artery in her heart that caused her heart attack, she then was transferred to ICU for 3 days. After which, mom was again brought to the emergency for episode of shortness of breathing and back pain, it was then that doctors had advised our sister that our mom needs to have the other arteries done soon.
Our mom and dad are not residents of Canada, our sister will shoulder all medical expenses that she incurred and will incur. With the sudden condition that our mom had right now, they can't sustain all medical expenses as it cost fortune for non-residents. Though we are all trying all possible means, we know that whatever we have will not be enough. Our sister is trying to do everything she can but we know that she needs help... As daughters, we know that you will understand if we will try to do everything to make sure that our mother will get through this and we want to shield our father from all the troubles as well. Mom has 4 more narrowed arteries, and the cardiologist recommends that the 2 of these 4 arteries should be opened up in 4 weeks (June 15 to be exact).
We would like to appeal to your kindest hearts to please help us support our mom in fighting her battle with this traitor disease... our family would like to find all resources that we can find to keep our parents. We have strong faith in God’s greatness for He knows where we are, He knows who we are and He definitely knows what we need. This is why we believe that He'll continue to send forth people with good hearts to save the heart of our mom and even our dad's. In the past 5 days, Cristina have met a lot of them – friends who reached out to comfort her and went with her in the hospital, fellow Filipinos working in the hospital that helped her while she was alone in the hospital waiting for mom, nurses who took care of mom while she was in ICU, and doctors helping her in finding ways to lower the bills.
The funds that we will raise will go towards the expenses for her recent PCI and her next PCI, cardiac rehabilitation program, follow up visits and other professional help.
We are very optimistic that we can raise the money with the help and support from people like you who either know our mom or my dad or one of us, their daughters or who just like us that treasure their parents the most and understand what we are going through right now…
As of this moment, the 3 hospitals where mom was admitted advised my sister that they will forward the bill statement to her home address, though she have not seen all bills from the hospitals and physicians she was given an estimated amount that she is facing around $40k Canadian dollars for the recent procedure mom went through and will rise because of the maintenance drug, medication and related health and wellness therapy that mom needs to take and also for the next procedure that she needs to undergo in 4 weeks.
